Chinzanso Garden Three-Story Pagoda
椿山荘三重塔
Heralding the Renovation of an Ancient Structure
Entsukaku is a three-story wooden pagoda said to date back to the 12th century, now located in the garden of the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo. For the ceremonies held in conjunction with the renovation of the pagoda, which was erected by Japan’s most famous Shogun, Daigo Daikoku headed up art direction and graphic design of two folding booklets. The booklets utilized camellia motifs – a nod to the garden’s reputation as a camellia-viewing locale – as well as architectural drawings that reveal the deeper meaning behind the construction of the pagoda, which has been designated by Japan as a Tangible Cultural Property.
