La Malle de Bois
La Malle de Bois
A Nostalgic Ride on the “Art Train”
La Malle de Bois, a sightseeing train running along the picturesque coast of the Seto Inland Sea, carries passengers to various sites of the Setouchi International Art Festival (also known as the Setouchi Triennale), the largest art festival in Asia. The design for the project uses a color palette of black and white, providing a sharp contrast against the natural and bucolic backdrop. Translated from the French as “wooden suitcase,” the outside windows of La Malle de Bois are adorned with handles to conjure the look of luggage. Featured on the train, signage, maps, souvenirs, and more, the graphics evoke a nostalgia for travel.
